It is disappointing when a person believes you are too naive or just too stupid to see they are not telling the truth.After using the talk show circuit, a blog and a publicity firm, Irreparable is 50 yr old Mark Gerardo’s latest attempt to distort and exploit the mental health of his wife of 25 yrs to release he and his young mistress’s role in a terrible tragedy.What I had hope was a honest recount of how his infidelity led to his wife’s mental collapse and her murder/suicide of his mistress. Instead it is a 350 page diatribe of two themes. First, my wife was a miserable bitch to be married to and second my mistress (20 yrs younger) was the most beautiful wonderful woman who couldn’t stop telling me she loved me.Using jr high level cliche after cliche the two themes are hammered home with the hope the reader will thinks he was powerless from cruelly driving his wife into a total mental collapse.Having the word “truth” in the title is laughable. Mark’s wife Jennair had to spend thousands $$$ in surveillance equipment to discover the truth. Using tactics such as publicly posting their love for their spouses on social media or agreeing to marriage counseling they tried to conceal and prolong their affair until Mark qualified for his residency requirement to file for divorce. They also moved Mark’s wife to Delaware knowing he was going to dump her alone and financially destroyed in a new state away from any family or friends.it is hypocritical and disingenuous for the author to express anger for his wife’s spying obsession. When a spouse is lied to and cheated on, some turn to alcohol, Rx, etc desperately looking for relief. She turned to spying. He turned the surveillance on by lying but she controlled ending it. It was her only way of getting the truth.There are thousands of comments on Youtube, blogs and media websites that call out Gerardot’s post mortem gaslighting of his wife as offensive. To try and change this tragedy from a peaceful, law abiding women driven to the point of murder/suicide to a bitch who was a horrible wife is self serving. It insults the reader’s intelligence.Little or no attention are put to some obvious aspects of this tragedy:Described by those around her as brilliant and unstoppable, Meredith Chapman used her employee for her own pleasure and relief from her own husband who appears to have moved onto someone else. It became a classic #metoo situation. Meredith hired and preyed upon an older vulnerable man who became addicted to her endless compliments and forbidden sex.Why did Jennair murder Meredith Chapman and commit suicide? Mark Gerardot avoids thus obvious answer to this question. I believe the psychologist on the 20/20 program was right. The contents of the secret recordings, text messages, snap chats and emails between Mark and Meredith must have been devastating to Jennair. The pure chemistry of fresh love combined with Mark and Jennair’s disgust and hatred for Jennair must have been crippling. Hearing horrible words from your husband of 25 years must have destroyed Jennair’s hope for her future but also turned her past into being the mistake Mark made for 25 years. THE TRUTH IS IN THE RECORDINGS AND CAPTURED TEXT MESSAGES. This, the author does not share.Irreparable tries to do the impossible. Explain that Mark Gerardot and his young mistress’s love for each other was so strong they could rightly expect Mark’s wife to live with being moved to a new city/state with no job, no family and no friends and be abandoned and left financially destroyed in just a few weeks.The reality was Meredith Chapman went after the wrong woman’s husband. And payed a horrific price.I do no recommend thus book. "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned". This proverb, first written by playwright William Congreve in his play “The Mourning Bride", refers to no one being angrier than a woman who has been rejected or betrayed in love. That certainly proved true in this narrative.This book titled “Irreparable” explores a highly publicized 2018 incident where such fury culminated in an estranged wife fatally ambushing her husband's mistress before turning the gun on herself.The author of the book, Mark Gerardot, was the man at the center of this conflict. He had been married for 24 years to his wife Jennair. They both worked in the field of marketing and experienced great times of prosperity as well as difficult moments of paucity when business slowed.When Mark took a new job in marketing at the University of Delaware in October, 2017, he soon found himself mutually attracted to his boss, Meredith Chapman, 15 years his junior. They begin having a semi-discreet affair, which soon comes to the attention of his wife Jennair. This blindsided Jennair, having struggled in her career, her youthful looks fading away -- her marriage was the last remaining pillar on which she leaned for stability.Jennair embarked on an escalating series of tactics to surveill, stalk, shame and ultimately harm the two illicit lovers.My interpretations of the three main characters -- Jennair, a very independent, fearless and brazen woman. She would say whatever she felt like regardless of the circumstances. She loses her sense of solo purpose and becomes extremely co-dependent on her husband.Mark came across as the sort of guy women need to steer clear of in romantic relationships. He seems to have a mantra of “the grass may be greener on the other side". This is evidenced by his acknowledgement of at least one prior one-night-stand while on a foreign business trip. He also seems flighty in his career, willing to jet off to have an interview in a "better" city (Denver) right after starting new jobs first in South Carolina and Delaware. In retrospect, if he were that unhappy with Jennair, he should have had the decency to seek and settle a divorce before going out to play the field.Meredith should have known better than to pursue a relationship with a subordinate who she directly supervised in the workplace and who was married.
